Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born on July 18, 1918, in Transkei, South Africa. He was the first democratically elected President of South Africa. From 1994 until 1999, he served as President. Mandela directly took part on anti-apartheid movement. In 1962 South Africa's racist government arrested him and sentenced to life for sabotage and many more criminal classes. Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years. Most of the time he served in Robben Island Prison and later in Pollsmoor Prison and Victor Verster Prison. He was discharged on February 11, 1990. Then he and his party took part in the peace talks with the South African white government. As a result in South Africa, racism has been ended and every kind of people took participation to established democracy in 1994. Mandela was named in South Africa from his community as Madiba.

Mandela received more than 50 awards in last four decades. In 1993 he got Nobel Prize for Peace.

Nelson Mandela was born  within the small village of Mvezo, on the banks of the Mbashe River in Transkei, South Africa. His father was Chief Henry Rolihlahla Mandela of the Tembu Tribe. Mandela was the  first member of his family who have studied in school. Mandela studied in a missionary school.  At the time of his mistress named his English name "Nelson".
